State Rep. Perry Warren, a Democrat from Newtown Borough, has been named the new majority chairman of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives’ Human Services Committee.

The appointment was made recently by House Speaker Joanna McClinton.

Warren succeeds Stephen Kinsey after he resigned in summer.

“I am honored that Speaker McClinton has confidence in me and my ability to chair this important committee,” said Warren, who is serving his fourth term. “The Human Services Committee through legislation and action addresses important issues facing many Pennsylvania individuals and families.”

The Human Services Committee plays a key role in overseeing the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services and the Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs. It is involved in legislation affecting social services, medical assistance, and more, according to Warren’s office.

McClinton described Warren as a “thoughtful leader and a proven collaborator” who has worked diligently to promote policies aimed at keeping residents healthy and safe.

In addition to his new role, Warren will continue as vice chair of the House Insurance Committee and secretary of the House Government Oversight Committee. His legislative career includes serving on various other committees, such as Transportation, Commerce, Environmental and Energy Resources, Local Government, and Judiciary.

“I’ve been fortunate to have served on some of the most active House committees and to have had a broad exposure to the legislative and committee process,” Warren said. “The work of the Human Services Committee impacts millions of Pennsylvanians, including many residents of the communities I represent, and I look forward to working with all the committee members for the benefit of the residents of Pennsylvania.”

Warren represents the 31st Legislative District in Bucks County, which includes Lower Makefield Township, Newtown Borough, Newtown Township, Upper Makefield Township, and Yardley Borough.
