The Bucks County Commissioners will discontinue broadcasting its meetings on Facebook Live due to technical difficulties, officials announced last week.
Commissioner Chairperson Bob Harvie made the announcement last week and cited ongoing issues with Facebook’s live streaming platform.
“This will be the last meeting that will be broadcast on the Facebook page,” Harvie said. “We will continue broadcasting meetings as we have done, but that will just be on the website.”
The decision comes after several glitches during recent broadcasts, including during the Jan. 6 reorganization meeting.
Harvie noted that while Facebook Live had been used since the pandemic began, it was time for a change.
“We have a website that has been updated and that actually has the capabilities to broadcast our meetings and do so with a lot of certainty that it’s going to work,” Harvie explained. “We don’t have to rely on an outside entity.”
The county updated its website to improve access to information and services for residents in 2021.
“It is a website that we’ve spent quite a lot of resources and updating for the people of this county to use to gain access to information and services, so it makes sense to use it,” Harvie added.
Residents will be able to view meetings in real-time or access recordings afterward, which is similar to the current setup.
The commissioners also stream their meetings on YouTube.
