Newtown Police Report Few Incidents Over Holiday Season

The police department still had several calls.

Newtown Borough police had a relatively quiet holiday season, Chief of Police James Sabath reported recently.

The chief briefed Newtown Borough Council this month on his department’s December calls.

There were 35 traffic stops carried out by officers and only seven led to citations, Sabath said.

The chief said the low number of citations was chalked up to the holiday season.

Officers in the borough also responded to several domestic calls, but none led to arrest, Sabath said.

The department investigated one reported assault at a business.

“We’re not sure if it actually happened,” Sabath said. “We saw a video and it doesn’t appear to be an assault.”

During the holiday season, the department assisted with several events in Newtown Borough.
