A winter storm is expected to bring a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain to the region this weekend, raising concerns about dangerous travel conditions.
The National Weather Service forecasts light snow beginning Saturday afternoon or evening and potentially accumulating up to two inches in Bucks County.
The snow is expected to transition to sleet and freezing rain later Saturday night and it will be followed by a chance of rain after daybreak Sunday.
Forecasters are warning of icy and snow-covered roads from late Saturday afternoon through early Sunday morning.
“While there remains some uncertainty in the exact timing of precipitation types, the main takeaway remains the same: wintry precipitation will lead to icy and slippery conditions Saturday evening through early Sunday morning,” the National Weather Service said in a Friday evening briefing.
Temperatures are predicted to rise above freezing Sunday in most areas, with highs in the mid-30s to mid-40s.
Forecasters anticipate that any remaining icy road conditions will improve as Sunday progresses.
A Winter Storm Advisory has been issued for the area.
PennDOT and Pennsylvania Turnpike officials said crews will pretreat roadways ahead of the storm, but salt doesn’t get rid of all icy spots. They advised caution for drivers who have to go out.
Looking ahead, another weather system could bring more significant snowfall on Tuesday and Tuesday night, forecasters said.
