A man was arrested after a high-speed pursuit through Lower Makefield and Newtown townships that led to a hit-and-run crash, according to police.

Kyle Robert Sperber, 26, of Falls Township, was taken into custody Tuesday morning following the pursuit, which began after a Lower Makefield Township police officer attempted to stop a blue BMW M3 sedan traveling at a high rate of speed on Oxford Valley Road around 9:31 a.m., according to an affidavit of probable cause.

Sperber, the driver of the BMW, failed to stop for the officer’s activated emergency lights and siren on the marked patrol unit, police said.

The vehicle switched travel lanes, accelerated, and failed to stop for several red traffic signals, during what police described as a time of heavy traffic, according to law enforcement.

The pursuit continued westbound onto the Newtown Bypass at Lindenhurst Road, with the BMW continuing to travel at high speeds and making unsafe lane changes, and failing to stop for red signals, police said.

The chase ended in a collision at the intersection of the Newtown Bypass and Penns Trail when the BMW struck the back end of a blue Toyota operated by a woman with her two-year-old child as a passenger, police said.

The crash caused disabling damage to the back of the Toyota and front-end damage to the BMW, but it did not stop the damaged BMW from speeding away, according to police.

Sperber continued traveling westbound on the Newtown Bypass at high speed before police from Lower Makefield and Newtown townships reportedly spotted the BMW near Richboro Road.

At that location, the vehicle was seen driving over a concrete divider separating the eastbound and westbound lanes, then traveling eastbound on the Newtown Bypass at speeds over 100 miles per hour, police said.

A Newtown Township police patrol supervisor and a detective located the BMW on South Sycamore Street and Durham Road, where Sperber was attempting a U-turn in the middle of the roadway, authorities said.

Sperber was placed into custody without further incident, police said.

A video posted to TikTok showed the arrest taking place.

When questioned by police, Sperber said he was late to his grandmother’s funeral at the time of the pursuit, according to court papers.

Sperber was brought before District Judge Mick Petrucci Tuesday afternoon on two counts each of fleeing or attempting to elude officers, reckless endangerment, and reckless driving. He faces single counts of accident involving damage to an attended vehicle, driving at an unsafe speed, and careless driving. The 26-year-old man was sent to the Bucks County Correctional Facility on 10 percent of $200,000 bail.
