UPDATE: Road-Rage Leads To Shooting On Newtown Bypass

A shooting stemming from an apparent road-rage incident on the Newtown Bypass sent one woman to the hospital Monday evening.

Newtown Township Chief of Police John Hearn told NewtownPANow.com and LevittownNow.com that the shooting occurred around 6:30 p.m. Monday near the intersection of the Newtown Bypass and Woodbourne Road.

The encounter, which incident appears to be a road-rage dispute that turned violent, involved two vehicles traveling eastbound on the Newtown Bypass before turning south onto Woodbourne Road, Hearn said.

Middletown Township police said at least two shots were fired during the incident.

The woman driving the vehicle was transported to St. Mary Medical Center with a gunshot wound to her left wrist, Hearn said.

The injured woman was listed in stable condition as of Monday night.

The wounded driver was found by police in the area of White Swan Way and Swift Road in the Langhorne section of Middletown Township after Newtown and Middletown Township police responded to the reported shooting, according to Middletown Township police Capt. Pete Feeney.

After the shooting, dispatchers flashed a description of the suspect’s vehicle over police radio.

Within minutes, the suspect and the vehicle were located at Washington Crossing Road and Stoopville Road, Hearn said.

The suspect was taken into custody by the Newtown Township, Newtown Borough, and Lower Makefield Township police departments, along with the Pennsylvania State Police.

A firearm was recovered at the scene and is currently being processed by Newtown Township detectives, Hearn said.

Hearn assured the public that there is no further danger but noted that officers are actively investigating multiple scenes in Newtown and Middletown townships.

Police are asking anyone who was in the area and witnessed the incident to contact Newtown Township police Detective Frank Goodwin at 215-579-1000 ext. 317.

One person was injured and suffered a gunshot wound to the arm, Feeney said.

An ambulance transported the wounded person to St. Mary Medical Center.

One person was in custody following the incident, Feeney said.

Newtown Township police were leading the investigation into the shooting.
