Guru’s Indian Cuisine has closed its doors after the diagnosis of head chef Ashni “Baba” Kumar with Parkinson’s disease.

Owner Priya Trivedi announced the closure on social media, stating that her husband’s health was the factor in the decision.

The couple, who finalized the adoption of two daughters last year, have chosen to sell the restaurant building, according a report in the Bucks County Courier Times.

While there is no cure for Parkinson’s disease, symptom stabilization through treatment can take up to a year.

According to the Bucks County Courier Times, the owners hope to reopen at an unspecified future date once Kumar’s symptoms are managed.

“My husband — Chef Guru — was diagnosed with Parkinson’s,” Trivedi wrote in an Instagram post. “The same man who carried this restaurant, our family, and our dreams through COVID, adoption, and years of uncertainty. Right now he’s struggling with the simplest things.”

Although the physical location on Sycamore Street is closed, Trivedi stated she is continuing to cook and is directing community support toward the family’s nonprofit, Guru’s Guardian Angels, an animal rescue organization.

“We’ve asked for prayers before — through COVID, through adoption, through so many battles — and today I’m asking once again: If you believe in prayer, please keep him in your thoughts and prayers,” Trivedi wrote.
