Wrightstown Health & Fitness: Why Shouldn’t Getting Fit Be Fun, Too? (Preview)

wf3wf1A young woman on the elliptical is moving quickly, matching the thumping beat of music. A middle-aged woman lifting herself from a hanging bar in the center of the gym grins and says, “I can’t believe I’m doing this” to a white-haired man, doing stretches nearby. In the meantime, four teens from a local soccer team are doing push-ups, and there is a resounding Clang! as a man doing dead-lifts drops the weights to the gym floor.

The surprising thing: while these folks are working out, you can actually sense a joy in the room. A trainer breaks out into a funny song, and a woman on the other side of the gym starts dancing.
It’s one of the things that makes Wrightstown Health and Fitness at 650 Durham Road (Highway 413) different from the others. People are actually enjoying themselves.

And what goes on in the gym is just half the story.

wf2Down the hall and through a door… Whoa! …. your brain-waves, suddenly surrounded by soothing music, undergo an amazing transformation. Is that the soft splashing of a waterfall? Ah! You think. Here is the serenity I need to relax and pull myself together. Massage experts are ready to soothe the frustrations of the day. Feel a nagging pain in your back or neck? The chiropractor can help … or the acupuncturist. Take your pick.

Go in another door, and a credentialed, encouraging nutritionist will explain why your current weight-loss program is — or is not –working.

Wrightstown Health and Fitness wants you to have all available options for being healthier, more fit, and ultimately, happier. Ask the he owner/trainers about their goals. They really do have different goals from most fitness centers.

“Self-empowerment,” says Eric Hursey, who played college football.

“Helping people move more easily. Our bodies are designed to move “ says Vinny Dioguardi, whose favorite sport was swimming before he discovered he had a gift for helping others reach their fitness goals.

“Recognizing the power you have within to live more fully,” says Christian Zetterberg, who at 6’4” is leaning over to give a good-bye hug to a client. “Great job today,” he says.

wf4There are clients who have lost over 100 pounds. Surprisingly, though, this amazing accomplishment isn’t bragged about. “Our goal is to empower people to be more fit. Weight loss comes with that, “says Vinny.

Christian adds, “Part of our services is helping those who are living with chronic conditions …like fibromyalgia or rheumatoid arthritis… or those recovering after a stroke, heart attack, or losing a limb. People can improve their quality of life enormously by making small, steady improvements…step-by-step.”

“We’re a community where people help each other,” emphasizes Eric.

Ask the clients who are leaving, how they feel. They may be noticing the pull of a long-underused muscle, but they’ll tell you they feel better than when they walked in, and the funny thing is ……tired as they are, they’re smiling!
