Newtown resident Chris Grumbrecht says he “knows the value of a good salad.”
Grumbrecht came from his night shift as a nurse at St. Mary Medical Center in Middletown late Tuesday night to spend the night in his car at a Newtown Township shopping center so he could be the first in line for the grand reopening of the Saladworks at 2804 South Eagle Road.
Grumbrecht was one of a group who secured their place in line to either be among the first 15 people to receive a free salad each week for an entire year or a $10 gift card when the Saladworks reopened mid-morning Wednesday.
Nish Patel, owner of the Newtown Saladworks since 2012, said the grand reopening comes after four months of planning and two weeks of construction at the eatery.
The business is a family effort and Patel says his family “works well together.” Patel handles the operations of the business, which also includes locations in Upper Southampton and Mount Laurel, New Jersey.
Along with the refreshed decor, three new salads, four new sandwiches and three toppings have been added to the menu. One of the new salads, the Farmhouse, was introduced in fall and has been added as a permanent menu item due to its popularity with customers.
Patel said staff at the Saladworks prepares ingredients fresh every day.
Newtown Business Association President Beverly Dimler helped christen the refreshed location during a lettuce cutting ceremony. Patel said the lettuce cutting was in place of a ribbon cutting.
