Upper Makefield’s new township manager is a veteran municipal leader.
Jim Pascale, who moved to East Rockhill this month, was hired in January by the Upper Makefield Board of Supervisors. The supervisors unanimously agreed to hire Pascale, who formerly worked as the administrator for Princeton Township. Combined, Pascale has over 40 years of municipal government experience.
Pascale, who earned his Masters in Public Administration from Rutgers University, served as the Assistant Township Administrator for Princeton Township for two years before moving on to become the Township Administrator in Mahwah, New Jersey where he spent four years. Pascale then returned back to Princeton to serve as it’s Township Administrator where he remained for nearly three decades before retiring and accepting a township manager position in South Palm Beach, Florida. Learning he missed his northeastern roots, Pascale moved back to the area with his wife, Luann Ausen, a recently retired middle school special education teacher.
Pascale has been well commended during his time in municipal government, even earning the title of ‘Outstanding Manager of the Year’ from the New Jersey Municipal Management Association. Throughout his career, Pascale helped Princeton Township earn the distinction of a ‘AAA’ bond rating, helped acquire acres of land for passive open space use, and aided in the construction of an award-winning new municipal building, library, and firehouse.
According to Pascale, a father of five and grandfather of three, he is an “ardent supporter of open government,” and repeatedly invites all stakeholders to have a seat at the table.
Interim Manager David Nyman, who worked with Pascale over the last several weeks to show him the ropes of Upper Makefield, has served in the position since previous township manager Sally Slook left for a job in Montgomery County in 2014.
