A new brick oven pizza restaurant is planning to open in Newtown Township.

Gennaro Palino and his wife plan to operate the Acqua e Farina pizzeria at 50 Newtown-Richboro Road. The lot is on the corner of Newtown-Richboro Road and Walnut Avenue.

The Newtown Township Board of Supervisors approved conditional use, making the eatery one step closer to reality. The plans will still have to come before zoning officials and recently received a passing grade from planning officials.

Attorney Don Marshal said the 1,336-square-foot eatery would use the exiting building, which was formerly Minute Man Press, and would remain roughly the same size. A small side portion of the building would be removed as part of the plan.

The proposed eatery would serve Neapolitan-style pizza, several appetizers and salad, said Pasquale Palino, the owner of Vecchia Osteria at 20 Newtown-Richboro Road and whose son Gennaro Palino will be the operator of the new restaurant. Acqua e Farina is not planning to have a liquor license.

According to plans, the building would be remodeled to fit the theme of the pizza restaurant.

The building is planned to have nine parking spaces, which Pasquale Palino said should be enough due to the small seating area and limited staff.

Some parking, buffering, entrance way and other minor zoning relief will be needed for the project, Marshal said.

The Palinos plan to keep the pizza shop six or seven days a week and restrict deliveries to the morning hours.

Neighbor Dave Matthews asked a few questions about the plan but voiced little concern.

The Palinos said they plan to open Acqua e Farina as soon as they can get approval, permits and renovation work completed.
