The fight to legalize medical marijuana continues in Pennsylvania.
Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf said in a blog post on Friday that he is a “supporter of the legalization of medical marijuana and is continuing to urge the Pennsylvania House and Senate to pass medical marijuana legislation.”
A Senate bill proposing to legalize medical marijuana will come before legislators on Monday and could even come up for a vote next week. Last year, SB 3 passed the Senate but didn’t move forward.
βI support the legalization of medical marijuana so we can finally provide much needed relief to families and children,β said Wolf. βIt is time to legalize medical marijuana because we should not deny doctor-recommended treatment that could help people suffering from seizures or cancer patients affected by chemotherapy.β
While efforts to legalize marijuana has received some bipartisan support, Republican House Speaker Mike Turzai is reportedly against the efforts. At a meeting in 2015, Turzai cried after becoming so emotional about the issue at a closed-door meeting, PennLive.com reported.
The pressure to the pass the legislation is on as the two-year legislative session ends in December.
