UPDATED: 2 p.m., Thursday:
The lights have been repaired and are functioning normally.
Original Story:
Traffic signals along the Newtown Bypass from I-95 to Buck Road malfunctioned Thursday.
Newtown Township police said in a Facebook posting that the lights were flashing due to a problem with the signals. The traffic control devices were still malfunctioning as of 1 p.m.
Motorists were asked to use “extreme caution” when traveling on the Newtown Bypass.
In an update, police said the issue is being addressed. They added that there are not enough officers on shift to post them along the length of the Bypass while still handling calls for service.
