Bucks County Recognizes 9-1-1 Dispatchers

911ShutterstockThe Bucks County Commissioners recognized emergency dispatchers recently.

At their meeting last Wednesday, the commissioners honored Bucks County dispatchers for their efforts to help citizens and their work communicating with area police, fire and emergency medical personnel. The commissioners declared April 10 to April 16 as “National Dispatchers Week” throughout Bucks County.

County dispatchers, who are based at the 9-1-1 Center in Ivyland, handled 586,000 requests for service in one year.

“Our dispatchers provide the vital link for police officers, firefighters and emergency medical personnel by monitoring their activities by radio, gathering information and ultimately ensuring public safety.” Commissioner Chairman Robert Loughery said. “Our dispatchers consistent exhibit compassion, understanding and professionalism.”

“Our dispatchers here are top notch and the best in the state,” Emergency Communications Director Audrey Kenny said.

Currently, the county employs 98 full-time dispatchers and 18 supervisory staff members who handle all emergency dispatching and 9-1-1 calls.
