Newtown firefighters trained outside the fire station on Liberty Street Thursday morning.

The firefighters from Newtown’s paid Emergency Services Department used their ladder truck to practice high-angle rescues outside the fire station. Firefighter John Gundy said training is required and often undertaken by the crew who mans the trucks during business hours.

While October is known as fire prevention month, firefighters said they are frequently conducting outreach with the community.
