Locals will have the opportunity to help clean up the Newtown Creek this Saturday, as part of a coalition project with the Great American Clean-Up of Pennsylvania.

The clean-up event, which will run from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on April 23, will focus on the area of the creek closest to the northeast corner of Centre Avenue and Sycamore Street, according to a press release issued by the Newtown Creek Coalition.

All volunteers interested in helping with the annual clean-up event, should remember to wear work clothes and sturdy shoes or boots, and meet in the Sycamore Street parking lot, located at the foot of the Centre Avenue Bridge.

The rain date for the event is scheduled for the following Saturday, April 30.

The clean-up event is part of a cluster of events to celebrate nature and our earth, in honor of Earth Day on Friday, April 22.
