Alt-rockers Pearl Jam dedicated a song at their April concert in Philadelphia to a murdered Council Rock School District graduate.

The band took to the stage on April 29 at the Wells Fargo Center and dedicated the song “Release” to 24-year-old Council Rock High School South graduate Colin McGovern. The Northampton man was allegedly stabbed to the death in Rittenhouse Square in mid-March after an argument with Steven E. Simminger, 40, Media, Delaware County.

Philly.com, which first reported on the dedication Wednesday, noted McGovern’s brothers, Terrence and Matthew, were in attendance at the concert.

Lead singer Eddie Vedder introduced the song and made mention dealing with loss.

Good Samaritans aided McGovern at the scene, but he passed away a short time later at a city hospital. He was mourned by the Council Rock community.

Police said McGovern and his friends were in the park after a night out on the town.

Simminger is awaiting trial on murder and possession of an instrument of crime. He is currently in the custody of the Philadelphia Department of Corrections.
