Washington Avenue Bridge To Be Closed Next Week

According to PennDOT, Washington Avenue will be closed and detoured between Sycamore Street and State Street in Newtown Township and Newtown Borough beginning on Monday, June 20.

Repairs for the bridge over the Newtown Creek will begin last until Friday, June 24, according to officials. Crews, which will work from 9 a.m. through 3 p.m., will also repair the concrete bridge deck and adjacent sidewalks.

The one-span, concrete I-beam bridge was built in 1932 and rehabilitated in 1972. It is 55 feet long and 28 feet wide. The structure carries 7,908 vehicles a day.
