Police around Lower Bucks County reported that community members have offered support and even bought them lunch the day after five police officers were shot dead and seven others hurt in Dallas.

On social media, several police departments reported donations of food, kind words and signs of support in their towns. The acts of kindness comes after the deadly violence in Dallas was reportedly perpetrated by suspect(s) upset at law enforcement.

An officer in Penndel – a community where businesses in recent months have placed “We Support Penndel Police” signs throughout town – wrote about an encounter that happened Friday morning:

“I was sitting in my car this morning at work and, like most of us, trying to digest all that has happened over the last week. Then, a man and his young daughter pulled up next to me. They both got out of the car and he explained to me that he wanted to introduce his daughter to a police officer, “because of all that was going on”. We are of different occupations and different races, but the man and I obviously shared a concern on where our country is going. Thank you sir for stopping. Even though we only spent a minute together, I hope that we showed your daughter the bad examples that we see on TV and the Internet are not who we truly are as a people.”

The staff at Colonial Farms Gourmet Foods in Washington Crossing donated lunch and drinks for six to Upper Makefield officers. In addition to lunch, pastries and other treats were included in the special delivery.

“We came to work this morning and my employees came to me with the idea. They were very proactive,” said Colonial Farms owner Nick Angelakis. “My employees were asking if we could do something for the officers and if we could deliver it.”

“We are truly blessed to work in such a great supportive community!!! Our heartfelt thanks to all of you!!” township police wrote on Facebook.

The story was similar in both Middletown and Newtown Township. Police in those towns reported that Shady Brook Farm provided them with gift baskets and a cards, which were signed “a grateful community.”

Middletown officers also reported receiving seven donated pizzas, six from a person named Jenna, and other food items, including cookies from Ann Doyle, were dropped off at the station. The officers thanked their community for the support.

“We love our community support, today and everyday,” Newtown Township police said.
