UPDATE:
Owner Of The Brick Hotel Talks ‘Hotel Hell,’ Future Of Business
Original Story:
A little more than a week after being featured on Fox’s “Hotel Hell,” Newtown’s Brick Hotel is on the market.
The longtime Newtown Borough staple has signed an agreement to be listed with Middletown-based SVN-Ahia Commercial Real Estate. The list price for the property that features a restaurant and 15 hotel rooms is $6 million for the business, property and liquor license, according to Chichi E. Ahia, who is marketing the property.
The Brick Hotel is currently owned by Verindar Kaur, who owns the business in partnership with her son CJ and has seen negative reviews by customers in recent years. The two have owned the Brick Hotel for 10 years.
Things got so bad last year that famed international chef Gordon Ramsey brought “Hotel Hell” to the business to try to turn things around.
During an episode that ran last week and was filmed last November, Ramsey was stern with Verindar Kaur after hearing complaints from former employees. He also worked with hotel staff and renovated portions of the building.
Despite his efforts, online reviews seem to indicate many problems with the business had not cleared up.
Marketing material for the property notes the Brick Hotel is a “turnkey business opportunity.”
Ahia, who is executive director of Sperry Van Ness Ahia Commercial Real Estate, said the current owners are looking to move on. The owners of the property were not available for comment Friday afternoon.
“This is a great opportunity for a strong operator,” Ahia said. “The draw is two things: the history of the building and it’s well esteemed.”
The current 14,200-square-foot building has seen many changes in the 250 years since it opened as a place for locals to get together. The property began to see great success when wealthy Philadelphians who would travel to Bristol by boat came to Newtown via stage coach.
