Speaker of the House Paul Ryan was in Bucks County Wednesday to support Republican congressional candidate Brian Fitzpatrick.

Ryan spoke in support of Fitzpatrick at an Upper Makefield venue full of supporters and fundraisers, including former Republican Congressman Jim Greenwood. He talked about his experience in congress with Fitzpatrick’s brother and backed the former FBI agent running against Democrat Steve Santarsiero.

“You better not leave us hanging. You better go get us a leaner version … I didn’t know he was going to get his own brother,” Ryan recalled telling retiring Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick when he learned he was not running again.

In a statement, Ryan said he was “proud to support Brian Fitzpatrick and I think he would make an effective representative for Pennsylvania’s 8th Congressional District.”

Brian Fitzpatrick also released a statement: “It’s an honor to have Speaker Ryan’s support of this campaign and belief in the importance of bringing my unique background as an FBI counter-terrorism and anti-corruption Special Agent to Congress.”

In recent months, Brian Fitzpatrick has had several fundraisers, including one with John Kasich, a former Republican presidential candidate and the governor of Ohio.
