Federal investigators on Monday released a new sketch and more information on a serial bank robber who hit a Wrightstown bank in 2012.
The robber – nicknamed the “Straw Hat Bandit” – is accused of robbing 11 banks in Bucks and Montgomery counties between 2012 and this past summer.
On September 28, 2012, the suspect walked into the Wrightstown branch of what was then First Federal of Bucks County at 803 Park Avenue and robbed the bank. Several months later on January 1, 2013, the FBI believes the same suspect walked into the Well Fargo Bank at 706 Stony Hill Road in Lower Makefield and knocked over the branch.
Here’s the new sketches of the suspect that were released Monday:
The Straw Hat Bandit is described by investigators as a white male in his 40s or older, about 6-foot-tall to 6-foot-2 and weighing over 200 pounds. He often conceals his face with a mask, pillowcase or bandanna. During the course of the various robberies, the suspect has worn as variety of hats, including a large straw hat, dark-colored bucket hat and black baseball cap with unknown white writing. In addition, he often wears a suit coat over shirt and tie, hooded sweatshirts and lightweight jackets.
According to the FBI, the robber is believed to have owned or had access to a 1998 to 2007 white Chevrolet Silverado or GMC Sierra base model pick-up truck with a cap over the bed. They also said the suspect either had access or owned a teal BMW sedan or a dark-colored Volvo sedan.
The suspect has pulled out a black semi-automatic handgun and verbally demanded money from tellers during the robberies.
Investigators warn the suspect is considered “armed and dangerous.”
