Trained searchers and a few members of the public took to Tyler State Park to search for a young woman missing for more than a month.

The search was for Lindsey Piccone, 21, of Bensalem, who was last seen in early September. Her car was found at Tyler State Park in Newtown Township on the evening of September 6. Authorities immediately began a search of the state park.

Thursday’s search of the 1,700-acre state park that sits in Newtown Township, Northampton and Wrightstown unfortunately did not turn up any new evidence or leads, Bensalem police Lt. William McVey said.

The search involved Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) authorities, Bensalem police, Newtown Township police and the Greater Philadelphia Search and Rescue Team.

As a result of some confusion after police mistakenly invited the public to help in the search, WHYY’s Newsworks reported several local residents took to the park separate of the trained searchers to look for Piccone.

“If that was me, I’d hope people would be out looking. If she’s in here, she should be found. I can do the distance, I can walk, so I might as well do something that holds meaning,” Jennifer Eberhard of Northampton told a Newsworks reporter.

A story on 6abc.com stated searchers used a flying drone to help look for Piccone.

As of Friday, McVey said no further police searches of the state park are planned.

“There are still a lot of unanswered questions that I don’t have. We still don’t know where she is. Is she alive? Is she dead?” Piccone’s mother Jeanette said in an emotional plea on Facebook last Tuesday evening.

Heather Andrews, a member of Piccone’s family, said everything in Piccone’s life was normal up until the time of her disappearance.

A $7,000 reward is being offered for any information that leads to the discovery of the young woman who went missing.

Anyone with information on Piccone’s whereabouts is asked to call Bensalem detectives at 215-633-3719.
