Democratic State Rep. Steve Santarsiero will host an event Thursday evening at the Garden of Reflection in Lower Makefield to speak out against hate and intolerance.

According to a message posted to the state representative’s Facebook page, the event will be nonpartisan and will deliver an important message that calls upon all leaders to speak out forcefully against the hate crimes that have been reported at area schools and elsewhere following the most recent presidential election.

The event, geared towards all community members, will begin at 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 17 at 1950 Woodside Road in Yardley. Santarsiero noted there is “no better place to come together” than at the Garden of Reflection.

“Whether Democrat, Republican or Independent, no citizen of this country should stand for such intolerance. It is not who we are as a people,” Santarsiero wrote on his social media page. “That these may be the acts of an ignorant few misses the point. Unless we speak out forcefully and immediately, we risk allowing such behavior and the views that they advance to become commonplace and, thereby, accepted elements of our public discourse. We have come too far and we have endured too much as a nation to allow that to happen.”
