Need to dispose of an old American flag? There’s now a way to make sure they are disposed of properly.

Eagle Scout candidate Dylan Dolan of Boy Scout Troop 29 recently created a flag collection box that sits in the Newtown Borough Hall.

Area residents can drop their old or tattered flag into the box and Dolan will make sure the disposal is done properly during a regular dignified burning ceremony.

“The ceremony is not burning in disgrace, it’s burning in pride,” Dolan told Council last moth. “It’s very solemn.”

Dolan, who grew up in Newtown, assured officials he would check the disposal box regularly and continue to do so even after the projects ends. He has already made plans for other Boy Scouts to check the box in the future.
