Newtown Borough Council’s vacant seat was filled Wednesday evening with Nicole Rodowicz’s appointment.

The stay-at-home mom to four boys was voted unanimously to take the seat left empty when Perry Warren stepped down after he was elected state representative.

During a quick ceremony, Mayor Charles “Corky” Swartz swore Rodowicz in as a council member as two of her sons held a large Bible.

Rodowicz told the Council that she and her husband plan to stay in the borough. For that reason, she wants to help make the community better for residents through her work on the governing body.

Rodowicz has served on the Newtown Borough Recreation Board and is active in the Goodnoe Elementary School community. She has a finance degree and has lived in the borough for 13 years.

Eric Sieckmann, who is married with two kids, also threw his hat in the ring for the open seat but was not picked. He is member of the Environmental Advisory Council and moved to the borough from Charlotte, North Carolina only a few years ago.

Sieckmann works as a manager for NRG in New Jersey and has experience after being on the governing board of a water company and a citizens budget advisory committee in Charlotte.

Council members vetted Rodowicz and Sieckmann before casting their vote. They said both were well qualified.

Council President Bob Walker said it was a “difficult choice” to pick between the two residents.

“You’re driven and have a lot to offer,” council member Tara Grunde-McLaughlin said to  Sieckmann, encouraging him to stay involved with Newtown.
