Scam

At approximately 3:30 p.m., a Newtown Township resident came to police headquarters to report a problem with the delivery of six I-phones he tried to purchase in November at the Sprint store in Willow Grove Park Mall. When the phones were not received in a timely manner the victim contacted the store and cancelled the order. However, the victim is still being billed for the monthly for the phones. The officer advised the victim to contact the Security or Loss Prevention Unit of UPS where the phones were delivered.

Identity Theft

At approximately 8:45 a.m., a Newtown Township resident came to police headquarters to report that she has been the victim of Identity Theft. The victim told the officer that she and her husband contacted their accountant to schedule an appointment for tax preparation. The accountant returned the call and informed her that unknown person(s) had fictitiously filed a return for the tax year 2016 using their personal information. The victim contacted the IRS to start an investigation and was advised to report the incident to her local police department before they would continue the investigation. The officer provided the required documents to the victim along with the forms to file for NCIC entry as an Identity Theft Victim.
