If you want to drive over the speed limit, don’t do it in Newtown Borough.

The borough police department recently held a speed detail and nabbed 13 motorists for whizzing through town, specifically in the areas of South Lincoln Avenue, South State Street and Washington Avenue.

In a Facebook post, police said one motorist was driving 45 MPH in a 25 MPH zone.

The traffic detail – conducted last Wednesday and Friday – came after recent complaints by residents.

“This department has performed 153 traffic stops so far this year so know that we are out here being proactive and not just reactive to complaints,” police said.

Speeders have been a problem on Newtown’s 25 MPH streets for years. In 2012, the borough purchased “Newtown Borough Pace Car for Safety” the magnets that were distributed to residents.
