A sex offender who didn’t update his registration with authorities is heading to trial.

According to Newtown Township police, Joseph D. Byer Jr., 25, of Glenside, was arrested in January. Court records show he waived his right to a preliminary hearing on a single charge of failure to register with the state police Monday before District Judge Mick Petrucci. His case is headed to Doylestown for trial.

Byer, who formerly lived on Justice Drive in Newtown Township, was convicted in 2012 for indecently assaulting a minor, authorities said.

The 25 year old, according to state records, does not list employment but reported he attended Bucks County Community College’s Newtown campus.

Byer is free on $20,000 unsecured bail and awaiting trial.

Editor’s Note: All individuals arrested or charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty. The story was compiled using information from police and public court documents.
