Upper Makefield police are investigating an incident they are terming “suspicious.”

Police said that around 3:40 p.m. Saturday in the 2900 block of Windy Bush Road there was a possible distraction burglary attempt.

The resident answered the door to find a woman dressed in all black with a badge around her neck. The woman told the resident she was with the gas company and took up an offer to come inside, police said.

The woman warned the resident gas was leaking into her water and asked if it tasted okay, police said.

The resident became suspicious because the home didn’t have gas service and asked the woman to leave, police said.

The woman left in a silver SUV that was gone by the time police got to the area.

No items were reported missing, but police said they suspect the resident was targeted in a distraction burglary scheme.

Police said residents shouldn’t be worried to ask for identification from someone who arrives at their door unannounced.

“Also, ask yourself, are they in the proper uniform? Are they driving an appropriate work vehicle? Ask to speak with a supervisor, or just call us,” police said.

Anyone with information on Saturday’s incident is asked to call police at 215-958-3020.
