The first reported area bear sighting has arrived.
The bear was spotted Sunday night in the Eagle Road and Jericho Mountain sections of Upper Makefield. The bear was last seen behind homes on Brownsburg Road East heading toward the Jericho National Golf Club, according to police.
While it’s not uncommon for bears to wander into Upper Makefield and surrounding areas during the warmer months, authorities usually advise caution when there are sightings.
Pennsylvania Game Commission Official Cheryl Trewella has said the past that residents should not try to approach or feed a bear if they spot one. She also said local residents should not put out their household trash until the day it is to be collected and they should check outside at night before letting their pets outside alone.
“People need to respect that it is a big wild animal,” she has said.
