The fourth annual Bubby’s Cook-Off in Newtown will feature an all-star cast of BBQ chefs and a collection of rare aged scotch this week.
The event, hosted by Rabbi Yudy Shemtov, will take place Thursday, June 8 at 6 p.m. at the Glazier Jewish Center at Lubavitch of Bucks County at 25 North State Street in Newtown Borough.
Along with BBQ prepared by a lineup of top pitmasters, attendees of the event will enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, as well as freshly-baked desserts by Nomoo Cookies from Pipersville and artisan coffee provided by The Coffee Room, which is located right on State Street.
The price of admission is $150 per person and supports Lubavitch of Bucks County and the Philadelphia Friendship Circle’s youth leadership.
The cook off is an interactive charity fundraiser focused on raising funds for educational and social programming, highlighting extending a helping hand to children with special needs and involving them in a full range of social experiences. The event also honors individuals who have been selected based upon their tremendous contributions to their community.
“We’re looking so forward to seeing all of the creative BBQ made by world-class chefs using kosher recipes,” said Rabbi Shemtov. “The pitmasters will be creating delectable dishes, and they seem to love the challenge of seeing what they can do with kosher recipes, which is something they rarely have the opportunity to do. You could say that our motto for this event is ’Kosher… Done joyfully’ and our mission statement is ‘fun philanthropy.’ This is more about raising awareness than raising funds. We are excited to create a really nice social event for our supporters and partners and people who like this kind of cuisine and libations. The turnout in the past has been excellent, but we shifted it from Philadelphia to Bucks County to bring it closer to our supporters. This year’s event will be more exclusive and unquestionably more delicious than anything we’ve done before this.”
Participating chefs include New York City’s newly Crowned Brisket King — Chef Izzy of Izzy’s Brooklyn Smokehouse; Chef Yos of Hassid + Hipster in South Beach, Florida; Pitmaster Glenn Gross of Fat Jack’s BBQ; and Chef Ed Batejan of The Pineville Tavern. Each one of the chefs’ creations will be paired with scotch from Tomintoul Distillery, which is located in Tomintoul, Scotland, including Tomintoul Single Cask 1981 — a 37 year-old bottle of Reserve Single Malt Scotch, which retails for $800 per bottle. The full menu with pairings will be announced closer to the event.
Bubby’s Cook-Off attendees are urged to wear casual cocktail attire.
Among the honorees are Steven Kuhl and Joseph Dimedio from I Rice & Company; Donna Segal from Northampton; and college students Emily Silverman and Hallie Newman.
