Catholic Officials Warn Of Donation Misappropriation

Officials from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia warned parishioners last week that some donations collected may have been misappropriated.

The church said that a former employee at TD Bank allegedly “mishandled, misappropriated, or not processed” mail and in-pew donations for the Annual Catholic Charities Appeal and the Annual Seminary Appeal.

TD Bank and the Archdiocese of Philadelphia said they were working to handle the matter and address any problems to parishioners.

“We did discuss donor privacy concerns with the bank, which does not believe that any donor’s personal information has been compromised. The bank also informed us that no electronic data was compromised in connection with this matter,” the letter said.

Archdiocese of Philadelphia warned that anyone who mailed a cash donation and did not receive a thank you card may have had their funds misappropriated.

The church stated an arrest has been made in connection with the issues.
