The search for Newtown Borough’s next chief of police is coming closer to a conclusion.

The Borough Council said during their meeting last week that they have narrowed the field of prospective chiefs down to two finalists. The final two candidates are Jim Sabath, who works as chief in Tinicum Township in Upper Bucks County, and Robert McLeod, a corporal at the in Buckingham Township.

Sabath and McLeod will be interviewed by the Council Tuesday starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Chancellor Center.

Following the interviews, the Council will go into executive session and possibly decide on who will lead the department.

The borough police department is looking to hire a replacement for Chief Anthony Wojciechowski, who will be retiring in the coming months.

The Council held a special meeting late last month to narrow down the field from five candidates to Sabath and McLeod.
