While Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate is higher than the national average, it dropped slightly in July, according to state data.
Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate fell one-tenth of a percent to 4.2 percent, the lowest it has been since May 2007, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Industry and Labor.
The national jobless rate for July was 3.9 percent.
Since July 2017, Pennsylvania’s civilian labor force has shrunk by 50,000. Many of those people either retired or have dropped out of the job market.
In the same time period, the state added 71,900 nonfarm jobs.
