COVID-19 Takes Three More Of ‘Our Most Vulnerable People’

Three long-term care facility residents with COVID-19 died on Saturday.

Bucks County officials said a 67-year-old man, 84-year-old man, and 92-year-old woman died, bring the tally of deaths to 80 with 40 being residents of long-term care facilities.

The county reported 45 deaths last week.

“This is the first full week where we are seeing the consequences of the coronavirus moving into the places where we did not want it to go, and that is the nursing homes,” said Bucks County Health Department Director Dr. David Damsker. “These are our most vulnerable people, and sadly it has taken a severe toll on them.”

One hundred nine new COVID-19 positives were reported on Saturday, bringing the total to 1,797.

“The number of people who are getting tested is not greater, but the positive rate is higher because we are focusing the testing on the people who have the highest risk,” Damsker said.

The majority of those testing positive are health care workers and residents of long-term care facilities, Damsker said.

A total of 148 Bucks Countians were hospitalized with COVID-19 as of Saturday night. Twenty six of them are in critical condition on ventilators.

A total of 373 people have recovered from COVID-19.
