Bucks County reported the highest number of deaths among patients with COVID-19 on Wednesday.

The county health department said 20 people – 11 women and nine men – between the ages of 69 and 95 died. Their deaths bring the total to 198.

Dr. David Damsker, the county health director, said all 20 of those who died were residents of long-term care facilities, which have been hit hard by the pandemic.

Officials received 132 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, bringing the total to 2,907.

Of the new cases, 30 were residents of long-term care centers and 27 were employees. A large amount of the new cases were family members or those who had known contact with confirmed cases, Damsker said.

Community spread remains low with only 10 cases reported, Damsker said.

The county counted 219 Bucks Countians with COVID-19 in hospitals as of Wednesday night. A total of 25 of them were on ventilators in critical condition.

Seven hundred thirteen people have recovered from COVID-19 in the county.
