When President Joe Biden gave his State of the Union address Tuesday evening, Lower Bucks County sixth grader Sara Harvey was in attendance.
Harvey, who lives with her family in Lower Southampton Township and attends Poquessing Middle School, was invited by Republican Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick.
Harvey was diagnosed with retinoblastoma, a rare cancer of the eye, and had her eye surgically removed.
Her diagnosis and surgery did not stop Harvey from making a positive impact in her community. She teamed up with the Neshaminy School District to raise nearly $4,000 for the Four Diamonds fund, an organization dedicated to fighting childhood cancer.
“Sara Harvey is a true warrior. She not only defeated cancer but also works tirelessly to raise money for cancer research and treatment,” said Fitzpatrick. “This disease affects thousands of American families, including my own, and we must continue to raise awareness and work towards finding a cure. I am proud of Sara’s efforts and honored to have her as my guest at the State of the Union address.”
The district said Harvey “has been instrumental in raising cancer awareness by organizing the District-wide Neshaminy Goes Gold / Sara’s Fight for the Kids campaign in September and helped to start the Mini MiniTHON for the District’s three middle schools.”
The four-term congressman’s office posted a photo of Harvey and her family in the U.S. Capitol complex on Tuesday ahead of the Democratic president’s address.
