The jet fuel underground pipeline improvement project that has been taking place for months in Upper Makefield Township is nearly complete.
Last week, Joseph Massaro, a representative for Sunoco owner Energy Transfer, updated the public and the Upper Makefield Township Board of Supervisors on progress of the pipeline improvement project.
The project has been underway for months and is improving the line that transports jet fuel under Oakdale Avenue off River Road and below the Delaware River as it moves across the Pennsylvania border to Hopewell and Ewing townships in New Jersey.
The pipeline is complete and it is being been tested to ensure safety, Massaro said.
In the coming days, the pipeline will be turned back on and used to transport the fuel, according to Massaro.
“Work right now is consisting of demobilizing that work site,” the pipeline company representative said.
Energy Transfer aims to make some landscaping adjustments and repave Oakdale Avenue in the coming weeks. The work is weather dependent, Massaro explained.
The 14-inch pipeline that runs through Upper Makefield Township starts at a Sunoco facility just south of Philadelphia moves jet fuel to Newark in northern New Jersey. The pipeline covers 111 miles.
