UPDATE: NWS: Tornado Went Through Newtown, Wrightstown

Strong storms caused damage and power outages across the Newtown area Saturday evening.

The storms that brought rain, hail, and winds moved through around 7 p.m.

A Tornado Warning was issued for the area and circular rotation was reported in the clouds in Lower Bucks County, but there were no reports a tornado touched down. However, strong winds were reported.

Shortly after the storm, approximately 3,400 PECO customers in Newtown Borough, Newtown Township, Upper Makefield Township, and Wrightstown Township were in the dark.

A part of the Village of Newtown shopping center in the area of Harvest Seasonal Grill collapsed onto parked cars.

Jessica Kanuck was inside Harvest Seasonal Grill with her husband and toddler when they received an alert on their phone of a tornado warning.

She said the lights were flickering and wind-driven rain pelted the floor-to-ceiling windows at the restaurant.

“The mood was very eerie. The emergency alerts echoed across phones in the dining room,” she said.

Minutes late, Kanuck learned from a friend who works at the restaurant that part of the shopping center collapsed on parked cars.

Downed limbs were reported throughout Lower Bucks County in the wake of the storms.

As of publication, no injuries were reported in the area.

The nearby Levittown area also reported damage from the storm.
