A 55-year-old man was injured after his powered-hang glider crashed in Newtown Township, according to police.

According to information provided by Bucks County dispatchers, the solo male operator had fallen from the paramotor, resulting in injuries, at Newtown Middle School. The incident occurred at 8:42 p.m. Monday as the operator was flying at an altitude of 25 to 35 feet.

Upon arrival, police located the 55-year-old man from Lower Southampton Township in the parking lot near the baseball fields towards the front of the school, Newtown Township police Chief John Hearn said.

Despite his injuries, the operator was conscious and mobile, but complained of pain in his neck and back.

The Newtown Ambulance Squad provided medical attention to the injured man, who was then transported to St. Mary Medical Center in Middletown Township for non-life threatening injuries, Hearn said.

The crash happened right after a series of storms moved through parts of Lower Bucks County. It was unclear if that played a role in the crash.

Assistance was also rendered by the Newtown Fire Rescue and additional members of the Newtown Ambulance Squad.

The call first came in as a small airplane crash.
