Newtown Borough police responded to 358 calls for service in May and June, according to Chief James Sabath’s recent updates to Newtown Borough Council.
In June, the borough’s police department received 165 calls for service.
There were five reported crashes in June, and none of the wrecks involved serious injuries.
The department took reports of four attempted frauds, including one where the suspects attempted to take someone’s airlines miles. No residents were swindled of any money in the attempted fraud incidents, Sabath said.
In the early morning hours of one day in May, a specialty store on North State Street was broken into by three suspects. An alarm went off at the business and the suspects fled without taking anything. About 30 minutes later, Upper Southampton Township police had a similar burglary and ended up in a foot chase with three suspects. One suspect was arrested, and a vehicle used by the suspects was found to be stolen out of Philadelphia, the chief said.
The department responded to four crashes in May. All the crashes resulted in minor injuries.
Officers conducted several pedestrian safety details, which led to 48 citations being issued. Most citations, according to the chief, were for running red lights at pedestrian crossings and for failing to yield to pedestrians.
A 37-year-old woman was arrested for DUI in May.
Borough police charged a 58-year-old Houston woman with identity theft in May. She allegedly caused a $20,000 loss for a borough resident. She is wanted and considered a fugitive, the chief said.
