Newtown Police Investigating Pedestrian Crash That Injured Two People

The crash left two people hurt.

A vehicle-pedestrian crash in Newtown Borough left two elderly people injured on Wednesday, police said.

The crash occurred at 11:08 a.m. on South State Street at the Barclay Court intersection.

A 79-year-old Newtown Township man and an 85-year-old Newtown Township woman were walking across the street in the marked crosswalk when they were hit by a car, police said.

The driver, an 85-year-old woman from South Carolina, was behind the wheel at the time of the incident, police said.

Both victims were transported to St. Mary Medical Center in Middletown Township for treatment. Their conditions were not immediately known.

In addition to borough police, Newtown Ambulance Squad responded to the scene, along with Newtown Fire Rescue and Newtown Township police.

The Newtown Borough Police Department is investigating the crash.
