Upper Makefield Township police officers turned into temporary cowboys on Saturday night as they rounded up some loose horses that had wandered away.

The incident began when the officers received reports of the stray equines on Pondview Drive.

The officers donned their metaphorical cowboy hats and embarked on what turned into a horse wrangling operation, police said in a Facebook post.

While searching for the horses’ owners, the police gained the assistance of a local horse expert.

The assistance helped in the safe handling of the animals, and led to an offer to board them temporarily, police said.

Law enforcement said the horses were well cared for while the search for their owners continued into Sunday morning.

Comments on the post indicated the horses were later reunited with their owner.

Officials thanked the resident who helped them and said that person went “above and beyond.”
