Area residents will have the opportunity to safely dispose of hazardous household waste this weekend as the Bucks County Household Hazardous Waste Collection program returns.
The collection event is scheduled to take place at the Newtown Township campus of Bucks County Community College at 275 Swamp Road on Saturday, April 6, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is rain or shine.
Participants are encouraged to bring up to 25 gallons or 220 pounds of hazardous products, identifiable by cautionary labels such as Danger, Warning, or Caution. The event will accept a variety of hazardous materials, including pesticides, flammables, caustics, fire extinguishers, toxics, batteries, and mini propane tanks.
Items not accepted include electronics, latex paint that isn’t dried, appliances, asbestos, explosives, medical waste, and any waste over two pounds of propane.
This initiative, hosted by the Bucks County Planning Commission and the Bucks County Commissioners, aims to prevent potential harm to people and the environment. Household products containing toxic chemicals, if improperly discarded, can endanger sanitation workers, cause fires in collection vehicles, and pollute air, water, or soil.
Residents are reminded that the event is not open to businesses, industries, or institutions.

Following the Newtown Township event, the program will continue with four additional collection events across the county:
- May 18 at Upper Bucks Area Vocational Technical School, Bedminster Township.
- June 29 at Central Bucks South High School, Warrington Township.
- Aug. 10 at Bensalem High School, Bensalem Township.
- Oct. 26 at Strayer Middle School, Richland Township.
The program is put together by the Bucks County Planning Commission and the Bucks County Commissioners.
