The community will gather to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the tragic flash flooding that claimed the lives of seven people in Upper Makefield Township.

The memorial event is set for Monday, July 15, at 6 p.m. at The Crossing Church at 1895 Wrightstown Road.

Last year, on July 15, torrential rains led to severe flash flooding in the township, resulting in the deaths of Enzo Depiero, 78, of Newtown Township; Susan Barnhart, 53, of Titusville, New Jersey; Katheryn “Katie” Seley, 32, of Charleston, South Carolina; Yuko Love, 64, of Newtown Township; and Linda Depiero, 74, of Newtown Township. The disaster also claimed the lives of Seley’s children, Matilda “Mattie” Sheils, 2, and Conrad Sheils, 9 months. Tragically, Conrad’s remains were never recovered.

In memory of the victims, Baumley Nursery and Landscaping has donated three trees to The Crossing Church, which served as a command post during the emergency response. Two garden plaques with the names of the deceased will also be installed to honor their memory.

All members of the community are invited to attend the memorial, which will provide a space for reflection and remembrance.

Upper Makefield Township has considered adding a memorial garden in memory of the victims.
