Elected officials representing the area and Pennsylvania in Washington D.C. issued statements following Iran’s attack on Israel.

On Tuesday, Iran filed close to 200 missiles at Israel following the killing of several Hezbollah leaders.

Israel promised to respond to the attack that left few deaths and injuries.

“We will choose when to collect the price, and prove our precise and surprising attack capabilities,” Israeli Major General Herzi Halevi told reporters in a statement.

U.S. military officials said most of the missiles were intercepted by air defense systems operated by Israel and U.S. Navy ships fired some interceptor weapons.

“Based on what we know now, the attack appears to have been defeated and ineffective, and this is testament to Israeli military capability and U.S. military,” President Joe Biden said Tuesday.

“I’m clear eyed. Iran is a destabilizing, dangerous force in the Middle East, and today’s attack on Israel only further demonstrates that fact,” said Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee for president.

The missile barrage comes amid a tense time in the region following Israel’s response of the October 7, 2023, attacks and efforts to rid the region of Iran-backed terror groups.

U.S. Sen. Bob Casey, a Democrat representing Pennsylvania, issued this statement: “I stand with Israel and unequivocally condemn Iran’s missile strikes. The United States must continue doing everything it can to intercept Iran’s missiles and help our ally defend itself.”

Dave McCormick, the Republican running against Casey, said this: “Bob Casey was the deciding vote for the 2015 Iran Deal, unlocking billions for Tehran to build up its military arsenal and underwrite terrorist proxies. Casey said the deal would make Israel ‘secure.’ Now, Israel is under siege once again.”

U.S. Sen. John Fetterman, a Democrat representing Pennsylvania, issued this statement: “Any move Iran makes against Israel, my voice and vote follows Israel to ensure they have whatever resources they need—whether that’s military, financial, or intelligence—to prevail over terror.”

Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick, a Republican representing the First Congressional District, issued the following statement: “Iran’s missile attacks on Israel are an outrageous, deliberate, and calculated act of provocation and aggression. As the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism, Iran’s evil and anti-Semitic regime seeks to destroy Israel, and any attack on our closest ally in the Middle East should be met with a swift and resolute response. Let it be clear: America stands firmly with our friends in Israel—now, always, and forever.”

Ashley Ehasz, the Democrat running against Fitzpatrick, released the following statement: “Israel has the right to defend itself against a missile attack from Iran. As a combat veteran, I deeply understand how critical it is to both stand with our allies and protect civilians. The US must continue our leadership in the peace process in the Middle East.”
