A new roof is up on the 1800s-era Octagonal Schoolhouse in Wrightstown Township.

Advanced Logistics Partners, of Maryland, was the contractor hired earlier this year to put on new cedar shake shingles and complete several related repairs.

The work started on Aug. 19 and was completed in six days, according to township officials.

The initial estimate for the work earlier this year was more than $73,000, but the Wrightstown Township Board of Supervisors finalized a $72,043.25 check for the work last month.

The change was due to alterations made to the project after the work began, according to officials.

The township has been considering the roof work since last year.

The eight-sided school at the corner of Swamp Road and Second Street Pike in the township is the only one of its type remaining in Bucks County, according to a history posted by the township.

At one time, there were more than 100 eight-sided schools in the region, including several in Bucks County.

The building has eight sides to ensure the maximum amount of light entered the structure, which was helpful for its use as a school.
