Newtown Township Board of Supervisors have given approval to purchase two new fire trucks
The trucks come with price tag of $2.9 million, according to officials.
The supervisors approved buying a 2028 Pierce Enforcer 107-foot ladder truck and a 2028 Pierce Enforcer pumper.
Newtown Fire-Rescue Chief Glenn Forsyth highlighted the need to replace aging trucks used to respond to calls in Newtown Borough and Newtown Township.
“The pumper will take the place of our current 2010 model, which is due for replacement next year after 15 years of service. The 2028 ladder truck we’re asking the township to buy will replace the 2008 model, which will be 20 years old when the new one arrives,” Forsyth said.
The new trucks won’t be delivered until 2028, which will give the township time to budget for the purchase.
Township Manager Micah Lewis confirmed they’ve been setting aside $660,000 annually for the past few years to fund this acquisition.
“This is a first for us – the township purchasing these trucks,” Forsyth added.
Supervisors Chairman Dennis Fisher stated that upon delivery, the trucks will belong to Newtown Township Emergency Services, which operates Newtown Fire-Rescue.
