The Family Service Association of Bucks County announced recently that its CEO will be stepping down effective December 20 to pursue a new opportunity with The Children’s Home Society of New Jersey.
Kristin DeForest, the current COO of the Family Service Association, will serve as the interim CEO following Dees’ departure.
“I am honored to assume the role of Interim CEO for Family Service,” said DeForest. “During this transitional period, my primary focus will be on ensuring seamless operations, upholding our commitment to our mission, ‘We listen, care, and help—every day,’ and supporting our dedicated staff—the backbone of our organization. By working together, I am confident that we will continue to provide essential services to our community.”
According to the organization, DeForest brings nearly three decades of nonprofit leadership experience to the role. She joined Family Service in April 2023 from another nonprofit and has held various executive roles in Bucks County since 2017.
Julie Dees’ “dedicated and passionate leadership has left a lasting positive impact on Family Service, strengthening its foundation to ensure continued success in serving the Bucks County community. The entire organization extends heartfelt gratitude to Julie for her contributions and best wishes for her future endeavors,” according to a statement from the Middletown Township-based nonprofit.
“Serving as CEO of Family Service has been the honor of a lifetime. I am deeply inspired by our staff’s dedication, the resilience of those we serve, and the support of our community,” said Dees, who started in her role in 2020. Together, we’ve achieved milestones that will make a lasting impact. As I step away, I am confident in the strength of Family Service and the team who will carry our mission forward.”
Alice Cahill Gens, the nonprofit’s board president, thanked Dees’ “visionary leadership and tireless dedication,” which have been key in expanding the organization’s outreach.
The Family Service Association of Bucks County serves 30,000 people per year. In addition to its Middletown Township office, it has an office in Bristol Borough, runs the Bucks County Emergency Homeless Shelter in Bristol Township, and has an office in Quakertown.
